Southwest Florida may be in for some rain this week, reports the National Weather Service, which forecasted a 20 percent chance of showers Monday through Saturday.
WINK TV meteorologist Amanda McDonald said the rain is the result of a strong high-pressure system that is feeding in moisture from the Atlantic Ocean.
But don't expect the rainy weather to stick around.

No Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, was detected this week in water samples collected alongshore between Pinellas and Collier counties. This makes for SWEET beach time!

Note The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Charlotte Harbor Preserve State Park staff and volunteers invite visitors to join them on a guided nature walk at the Old Datsun Trail in Punta Gorda. Hikes are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays from Feb. through mid-April. Charlotte Harbor Preserve State Park is located at 12301 Burnt Store Road, Punta Gorda.
Field trips are free of charge and advance registration is required. Early registration is advised, as space is limited. Special group tours may also be arranged. Field trips may be subject to cancellation due to weather, low registration and guide availability.
