“What’s the best time of year to fish in Southwest Florida? ” is a question I’m often asked. Since we’re lucky enough to enjoy wonderful fishing here year-round, it’s tough to pick out any one season or month as being the absolute best, but if I’m pushed into providing such a judgment, I just might pick April as a favorite month. Here are some of the reasons.April is a huge snook month and is probably the most productive of the five months that snook season is open. Snook that have spent much of the winter in inland backwaters are now showing up on the flats and on the beaches. Not only are these fish on the move, they’re hungry after a long winter of scratching by on relatively sparse forage and they’re now feeding heavily on the influx of herrings and sardines that are appearing in the bays.
